“I had a really great day and left feeling inspired by all the amazing speakers and buzzing with energy!”
Just one response to Making Impact - Fair Luxury’s 2019 conference with the Incorporation of Goldsmiths at Edinburgh College of Art on 3rd April - and I couldn't have put it better myself.
Every year we put together a Fair Luxury event bringing together people in the jewellery world with a desire to make our industry better for people and planet. We explored the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and how they can help us all make a positive impact, as jewellers, individuals and communities.
And heard about two projects working with artisanal gemstone miners in Tanzania and Madagascar building better livelihoods for miners and their communities. One of our gemstone dealer friends Stuart Pool is involved in the Tanzania project and you can see a movie about it by clicking here
Plus, young designers and students talked about ethical making and how many are starting their careers with sustainability in mind.
Vivienne Low, from Fashion Revolution and the V&A Dundee, inspired us and sparked a new initiative with Fair Luxury joining the Fashion Revolution to encourage people to think about the story and people behind their jewellery and asking where their gold or gemstones came from.
We’d love to tell you more - just ask!
