Force of Nature

Andrea Jose – our first jeweller in residence for London Craft Week

Discover collaborative design, exquisite craftsmanship and responsible gold mining in Marylebone during London Craft Week

Renowned Peruvian designer and social entrepreneur Andrea Jose is jeweller-in-residence at the Cox & Power Chiltern Street boutique/atelier for London Craft Week, 13-18 May, and until 5th June 2024.

A first for us, welcoming Andrea as jeweller-in-residence marks an exciting new era for Cox & Power, welcoming new creative vision and inspiring collaborative approaches underpinned by ethical sourcing and artisanal making principles.

Andrea is a jewellery designer from Lima with a background in business engineering and social impact. Andrea holds an MA from Central St Martins. It was as part of her Master’s research that she first started making connections with miners in the Madre de Dios region (Peruvian Amazon), in an effort to create a complete gold supply chain that would guarantee gold being mined without mercury and support reforestation projects. Find out more about the social and environmental impact work Andrea is involved in via NGO Pure Earth here.

Force of Nature – Exhibition and Residency

We are excited to be hosting an exhibition of Andrea’s work alongside examples of the ancient textile traditions that inspire her designs. The journey starts at the origin of the gold. Discover how Peruvian culture and values have inspired this project, explore the ancient inspirations behind the jewellery design, and hear positive stories of reforestation, female empowerment and mercury-free Fairmined gold.

Andrea says of her commitment to responsible mining:

“I got involved because of my own questioning as a jeweler. I certainly felt the responsibility to support and achieve the generation of a new responsible artisanal and small-scale mining model in the Amazon, but also through collaborations.”

A Collaborative Collection

Andrea and Rachel Sweeney of Cox & Power are united by a shared passion for radical provenance, sustainability and exquisite craftsmanship. Having previously collaborated on the Lagoon pieces, the residency will offer an opportunity for a fresh collaboration to bring forth their vision of conscious craftsmanship, creating a collection of contemporary treasures with an elevated purpose.

Expect to see Andrea’s unique textile-inspired design signature alongside our own Ribbon style of wrapping to form an exclusive new collection of one-of-a-kind rings, earrings and necklaces.

You may remember our recent collaboration with Andrea on the Lagoon collection, working with Peruvian goldsmiths and mercury-free Fairmined gold. Find out more about the project here
