Our latest collection, Force of Nature, emerged from a remarkable creative residency during London Craft Week 2024.
We were proud to welcome renowned Peruvian designer and social entrepreneur Andrea Jose as our jeweller-in-residence—a first for Cox & Power, and a defining moment in our ongoing commitment to ethical making. Andrea brought with her a powerful design perspective rooted in sustainability, social impact, and the cultural traditions of her native Peru.
Her time with us sparked new ideas, approaches, and conversations—shaping a collection grounded in shared values of transparency, artisanal skill, and purposeful design.
Andrea is based in Lima and holds an MA from Central Saint Martins. Her academic research led her to build direct relationships with artisanal miners in the Madre de Dios region of the Peruvian Amazon, working to create a fully traceable, mercury-free gold supply chain that also supports reforestation and local livelihoods. You can learn more about her environmental and social impact work through NGO Pure Earth.
During her time with us, Andrea exhibited her jewellery alongside Peruvian textile pieces that inform her design language, tracing a journey from the origin of the gold to the final piece. The residency celebrated not only design but the stories of reforestation, female empowerment, and the ancient cultural influences embedded in her work with Fairmined gold.
As Andrea explains:
“I became committed to responsible mining because of my own questioning as a jeweller. I certainly felt the responsibility to support a new generation of artisanal and small-scale mining communities to create a truly responsible mining model in the Amazon, through partnership and collaboration.”
The Force of Nature collection is the result of this collaboration between Andrea and Cox & Power’s Rachel Sweeney. United by a shared belief in radical provenance and conscious craftsmanship, and creating a series of contemporary pieces that carry both creative and ethical weight.
Expect Andrea’s distinctive textile-inspired style to sit alongside our own Ribbon style, resulting in one-of-a-kind rings, earrings, and necklaces—contemporary heirlooms with a deeper purpose.
You may already be familiar with Andrea’s work through our earlier Lagoon collection, developed with Peruvian goldsmiths using mercury-free Fairmined gold. Read more about that project here.
Force of Nature is a celebration of ethical design, cross-cultural creativity, and the enduring power of collaboration. These designs represent more than beautiful craftsmanship—they carry with them the stories, values, and people behind their making. Each piece speaks to the connection between material, maker, and wearer.
